Sustainability is a core value for us. With a focus on innovation and responsibility, we work on sustainable options. Renewable Energy: Our nursery has been part of a collective for over 15 years, using residual heat from gerbera greenhouses and geothermal energy instead of gas. This reduces environmental impact significantly. We’ve also minimized our heating needs by using heat-saving greenhouse coverings, making our energy use as efficient as possible. This approach is not only better for the environment, but I strive to continuously reduce our energy consumption. Solar panels have been installed to harness renewable energy.
Water Neutral: Rainwater collected from the greenhouse roof is the sole water source for the plants. All wastewater is recycled, ensuring no drop is wasted.
Natural Pest Control: Alain minimizes chemical use by employing beetles and other biological methods, creating a healthier environment while reducing emissions. We’ve seen the success of this approach, as wild bees have even made their way into our greenhouse.
Bee Integration: Wild bees in the greenhouse inspired an experiment with a bee colony to collect honey produced during growth, keeping flower stems cleaner and preventing mould.
Sustainable Packaging: Alain is trialing paper sleeves for flowers, offering customers eco-friendly options. We believe it’s the way forward and hope it raises awareness about making mindful choices.
